It all started in 1956 when four-wheel-drive enthusiast Basil “Smitty” Smith opened a small machine shop in his garage, later joined by his son Tom, whose innovative designs included the original “Nerf Bar” side step and classic tubular bumpers. From its family-run beginnings, Smittybilt continued to grow, joining TransAmerican Auto Parts and 4 Wheel Parts in 2006, transitioning to Wheel Pros in 2023, and beginning its latest chapter with BPAG (Bestop Premium Accessories Group) in 2026.
